We are a permanent staff of three teachers, all highly qualified and all experienced Cambridge examiners.
Jane Bailey holds an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL (Leicester), as well as a degree in modern foreign languages. She has over 20 years' experience teaching adults and young learners and has taught in language schools in Catalonia, the UK and Italy, both as teacher and director of studies. In addition, she has taught on pre-sessional English courses at UK universities, mainly to students about to embark on postgraduate MBAs. As joint director of Sherwood she is responsible for designing and teaching Business English courses. For the last fourteen years, she has been a tutor for the UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) and has been involved in pilot studies and exam/materials writing. More recently, Jane has co-authored a series of EFL coursebooks and workbooks for secondary schools (Cengage/National Geographic) and has joined a team of exam writers for the University of Central Lancashire.
Jamie Fajardo Born in Barcelona, to Spanish/Catalan parents, Jamie grew up in Australia and is completely fluent in Spanish, English and Catalan. He holds two degrees from Australian universities: educational science and building design. Having completed his studies he worked in secondary schools in Queensland and received a national prize for innovation in education. Jamie has 20 years' experience as a teacher, in primary and secondary schools and in private language schools. He initially worked as a craft, design and technology teacher and spent a significant period of time in an aboriginal community in northern Queensland. On returning to Spain, he began teaching English and is now our primary expert. He has a great deal of experience teaching in-company Business and Technical English courses and also works as a tutor for the UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya).
Nicola Oehl holds an MA in Philosophy from the University of Hull as well as a certificate in language teaching from the University of Cambridge (CELTA). She has over 12 years' experience teaching English in academies and companies in Girona. At Sherwood, Nicky teaches all ages and levels, from young beginners to advanced adult learners. She is highly experienced in preparing candidates for Cambridge examinations at all levels. In addition, she works as a proofreader and prepares philosophy articles and texts for inclusion in academic books and journals.
Other teachers: all the teachers that work with us are native graduates and hold a recognized certificate in teaching English as a foreign language. They are recruited to work with us based on their knowledge, motivation and classroom ability, as well as their enthusiasm for teaching and for the English language.
